Pre-Draft Link Drop

With the Draft coming on Thursday I thought I would pass on some reading material draft related. I also have some things that are completely unrelated to the draft. I don't know where that first image came from but I would like to go there. Hold on.

Couple days ago, Benny asked me what I thought of Rashad McCants' trade value. I don't know but Rashad thinks he should be playing more.

This past year after working extremely hard to recover from microfracture surgury, I found myself coming of the bench being the sixth man and the second leading scorer. The only bad part about it was that I could have been twice as productive with more minutes. I would have been able to meet my individual goals, we could have won more games, and I'd be on my way to being a respected player in the NBA.

Jon Marthaler from over at TNABACG disagrees with the kid. He had this over at twolvesblog.

This was started about 3 weeks ago so somethings have changed, people have fallen, some have risen. I selected Brook Lopez, but if I were to do it over again I would probably do if differently. Before I state who I would take I will give you a paragraph neubie wrote a bit back:

As for OJ Mayo, I don't think I've wanted a soon to be professional athlete fail more than I do this guy. Since I first heard the story of him walking into USC coach Tim Floyd's office and recruiting himself to the school, I have wished for his demise. It only got worse on hearing about and seeing the tape of him throwing an alley-oop to himself towards the end of a 40 point State Championship Game blowout and then getting ejected from his final game for chucking the ball into the stands. This might even be tolerable, if not excusable, but then he walked around the court, hands held high, basking in the cascading cheers of the crowd like some Roman Gladiator just having defeated a wildebeest. Only this is a high school kid, and it just proves what kind of cocky, attention hogging idiot this guy really is. The sad thing is, he has sick basketball talent and that will land him in a high spot in the upcoming NBA draft and probably some endorsement deals with Sunny D and Hellman's.

With that taken care of, I would like to say I had similar feelings about Mayo at first too. I felt pretty similar when all this came out even. But as of right now I hope that we can select OJ Mayo at the 3rd pick.

The Big Lead has been previewing each team prior to the draft for the last few weeks. Today they had the Wolves. TBL thinks we should take Lopez. I disagree. I now expect every graceful and dominating shooting guard to break the bucket at least once in their life time. (I'm looking at you Kobe, and eventually you Roy (damn you McHale for trading him for Foye))

Your Bracey Update

Senior Bracey Wright, Whom I promise to contact his upcoming off-season, as well as some other new Wolves (mainly Corey Brewer because he has a site), needs his stats updated.

A far as I can tell Bracey averaged just under 15 points per game,2.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, .7 steals, 1.9 T.Os and .5 blocks per game over in Greece. Hopefully some NBA team will realize that these numbers can translate into the NBA game.

I wish his defensive numbers would have gone up to better his chances of becoming an NBA player again, but I hope that someone will give him a chance anyway. At least we know he'll be good some day.

Wolves Might Lose Fewer Games in the Future

Randy Foye has been cleared to work out.

I know that doesn't matter because the team is a steaming pile of shit being lead by three blind men with a cumulative IQ of 42, but I've wanted to see what this team was supposed to look like all season. Foye stated earlier this year that he felt he would be ready to about 5 games after given the go ahead. That would place his return on the 18th or 19th of December against Phoenix of Denver. My guess is that he will take longer than that to get back into game form and would only have a minimal role for the first few games back seeing as the team has a snowballs chance in hell of doing anything but accumulating the most ping pong balls for that crazy lottery that should only take 5 minutes but ESPN stretches out into an hour.

Foye has been out all season with a stress reaction- that's jibba jabba for a few millimeters from needing micro fracture surgery. That's a bunch of bullshit Randy, I remember this great runningback who tore a ligament in in his knee and hit the ground running two games later. His knee Randy! Runningbacks need their knees just as badly as point guards. You're not even a real point guard, the three headed beast just shoved you into that role.

I'm just playin'. It'll be good to possibly win 2 games a month instead of the 1 that we have become so accustomed to. We might even be able to challenge the Heat, Knicks and Supersonics on a semi-regular basis. Watch out world, here come the T-Wolves!

On a quasi-related note Bracey Wright is averaging 15.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1 steal and just under a steal in 30 minutes for Aris TT Bank in Greece. The team has a 6-4 record and have 4 more games to go in the regular season. I have no clue how basketball works in Europe but there are three different groups so I think its like soccer and goes on forever as long as they keep on winning.

It might be time for the Triple B- BRING BRACEY BACK. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see Theo Ratliff again this year and thought there is no place for him on the team it wouldn't really matter as long as someone can stand on the court for a couple of minutes while we get beat.

Castillo Leaves State, Bracey Leaves Country

Yes, every one knows that Kevin Garnett is no longer a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he was not the only sports figure to get a little time in our posts to say goodbye...

The Twins also traded one of their better players in Luis Castillo away for 2 prospects. Those prospects are Drew Butera a catching prospect and son of former Twin Sal Butera and outfielder Dustin Martin. The catcher makes me wonder because it seems like the Twins have a ton of catching prospects that are going to sit behind the All-star caliber and hometown hero Joe Mauer. This organization had better turn right back around and trade a couple of prospects (like their AAA catcher) or Rincon or Silva or a combination for a bat that works properly. The problem is that they have about a half an hour to do this.

Castillo's bat worked properly... he had a .304 average. We've lost the fastest man with a limp in the MLB, the man who stated they year with about 12 straight infield hits, the man who regularly beat out bunts and the guy who seemed to be the only one getting on base a while back. As far as defense goes it sounds like we'll be bringing Brian Bruscher in as the everyday 3rd baseman, moving Punto to second and bringing Alexi Casilla back to the bigs as a speedster and utility infielder to groom as our everyday 2nd baseman. As much as I dislike losing a 3 time all-star and 3 time gold glover this seems logical for the future... I'm just still thinking about the present.

As for Bracey, he recently signed with a greek team called Aris TT Bank. I didn't manage to look up the stats on Bracey's summer league stint with Denver but I can't imagine that they invited him back. Too bad, I honestly think the guy has enough talent to be a solid six or seventh man and possibly even end up as a starter. Of course this isn't the end by any means and there are tons of players who went to Europe for a couple years to hone their game before hitting the Association again. If I can find time between work and looking for a new truck I'll ask him about his new team and his thoughts on the KG trade. I know I've said that before, but seing as he'll be leaving the country soon and he is the only person I semi-sort-of-know with any insider information on the Wolves and the NBA so I'll make sure to do it soon. Some stuff hapened while I was gone

While I was gone a couple notable things happened regarding the sports teams in Minnesota That I thought were worth mentioning.

The AL All-star team was announced somewhere between Iowa and Wisconsin and I swear to god it took me 2 days to figure out which Twins made the team. The batting Champ was replaced by the MVP Torii got invited this year and Johan made it 3 in a row. Pat Neshek was included on the Internet vote for the final spot. Alas, the wacky, blogging reliever from Brooklyn Park was unable to overcome the terrible twosome that is the Red Sox nation and Japan. Hideki Okajima stole the final spot.

In other Twins news... Holy shit, they scored 32 against the White Suks today. Torii had one in each game, Dr. Morneau had 3 (in one game!), Gimpy Cirillo had one, Kubel displayed that power people keep on trying to tell me he has and Cuddy hit double digits in the HR catagory. In the second game of the double header Mike Redmond took a bat to the face invoking a strange rule that TNABACG explains. I'm calling it the Chris Hientz rule from now on

In Wolves news Kammron Taylor was added to the Summer league roster. I believe that this is a good pickup and though it will not fill the void left by Bracey, its a start. Stupid McHale.

The Wild signed Pierre Mark Bouchard Wes Walz to one-year deals and requested arbitration for Boogaard. They also Signed a dude on 'roids so that we have a chance of beating the Ducks. I will have my day, Earl.

The Vikings plan on raping you if you want to go to the Bears or Packers games. If you want tickets to those games you're gonna need to buy preseason games. Note to self- Hit up the August 10th or 30th preseason game to check out Adrian Peterson... people will be giving away tickets. Also, Kelly Holcomb would like to become the quarterback for the team, but Brad Childress still feels like the team isn't ready for quarterback at this point in time.

I just got back from a long and complicated journey to discover that Bracey Wright will be playing of the Denver Nugget's Summer League. Ohh, Bracey, we hardly knew ye. I'll probably spend the part of the day tomorrow that is no consumed with work compiling a list of questions to send him once again. Hopefully he is willing to tell us everything that is wrong with the Wolves organization, or at least give us something of interest. Thanks to I heart KG for keeping this valuable nugget of information from slipping through the cracks. Seriously, go check her out cause she does way more leg work than I'll ever do.

Nu-Basketball

This is something that I’ve been thinking about basically since the emergence of Steve Nash as a superstar, and something that has gained some validity with the Warriors beating the Mavericks. I can feel a change in the NBA style of play, one that turns post-up players such as Shaq and Yao into dinosaurs. There is a de-emphasis of defense, which is in turn replaced by passing, the three pointer and an up-tempo game. The Suns, Warriors and on occasion teams like Denver and the Wizards laugh in the face of conventional basketball thought. To quote John Madden “ To win the game, you have to score more points than your opponent!”

College teams put three guards and two forwards (or vise versa) on the floor and never bother to nominate a center. I see this happening down the road in the NBA and so does Henry Abbott… two starting seven footers who only post-up when necessary, one player between 6-8 and 6-11 playing the slashing/ jump shooting/ long ball threat and two players who can ball handle and pass. Two jump shooting seven footers has yet to work for the Timberwolves, but nothing ever works for them. They also needed a passing point guard, and though we employ several of them not a one was a good passer.

I feel like passing will become more important than shot blocking. The post-up player no longer matters if he can’t get back on defense before the other team takes it’s shot. The Up-tempo European style brought to the U.S. by Mike D’antoni, and now working in Golden state makes me wonder whether there are other European coaches with the ability to turn a Memphis Grizzly’s team (who score in bunches when they win, but don’t win often enough) from the cellar to the top.

Conventional thought leads me to believe that if I had the first pick in the upcoming draft I would take Oden, but as I watch these playoffs and see that the traditional center has been canceled out by the speed of smaller teams. Speed beats size. Durrant trumps Oden. Slow and steady no longer wins the race. Defense may no longer equal championships.

The wild were out sized, out matched, and out played… now they’re out. Would Johnsson and White have made a difference? Probably not... Ducks looked too good. We couldn’t take advantage of the power play and paid dearly for it. Now every Minnesotan will have to worry about the fate of Nikolas Backstrom.

FSN is out of options

Minnesota has reached rock bottom. FSN North is now employing the 'KG Cam' to try to entice viewers to continue their watching experience. The 'KG CAM' consists of one camera that follows Kevin Garnett no matter where he goes. If you ever wondered who KG talks to while he is on the bench you no longer need wonder. It's Trenton Hasell and Mark Blount. I swear to god, if McHale makes it past June I'm going to kill myself. The man has ruined basketball in Minnesota.

Last Week the T-wolves got a .2 share of the market.

We are now no longer concerened with action on the court and now focus all attention on our superstar. How far are we away from naming our team the Minnesota Kevin Garnetts? If we have sunk to this level we should feel free to lose every single game prior to and after this horribly inefficient game. Free Bracey Wright!!! We need to see if he is worth keeping around and the world know that Jaric, Hudson and James are not worth the salary we pay them.

This team is in the dumps and will go nowhere without a new front office... its not the talent that is the problem at this point- its the people bringing the talent in. The KG cam = the self-destruction of the season

My first game at the Dome (this year)

Before I get onto baseball, I know we said that we would be doing a live-blog of every Wild game until the end of the season, but I ended up going to the Metrodome to watch the Twins beat Baltimore. The Wild ended up winning their game 3-0 so it’s probably better that I didn’t watch… Like I said before I never seem to see a goal scored and that is doubly true for a Wild goal. In other Minnesota sports news the T-wolves lost to King James and his Jesters. I’m done with this team, maybe for good if they come back next season with the same roster. I pledge that my only Timberwolves related post from here until the draft will be an attempt at another interview with Bracey Wright to ask him what he thinks of his new team’s potential and some real dirt on his former T-wolves teammates.

This game was not quite as exciting as the opener, but none-the-less a victory is always a better game to watch than a loss. The varying play of the two nights shows the range that this team has and that they can play on the defensive weaknesses of their opponents no matter who they are. Yesterday when the Twins started the scoring off with back-to-back HRs, today it was Melvin Mora’s light up the scoreboard with a homerun. Boof had a tough inning, by the time the 3^rd was over his pitch count was in the mid-fifties and the Twins were down by 2.

The Twins played an NL type of game last night- they stole bases and advanced runners just like Ozzie has always claimed to do. We stole 5 bases, Mauer stole one and Tyner had an extremely embarrassing stolen base… the only thing more embarrassing than him coming up a good 5 feet short of the base was the fact that he managed to get to it without being tagged. To add insult to injury Tyner came home as the winning run moments later. If I ever get a hold of the video I’ll make sure to post it, it’s amazing. He should probably ask Troy Williamson about that Nike sight thing; there has to be something wrong with his depth perception.

A few things that I noticed: Castillo already has 3 infield hits, Morneau is batting around .675, and Cuddayer is having trouble warming his bat up. I see no problem with Cuddayer yet because it is only the second game, but it’s the same way with Boof (and I’ll elaborate in a second). If the problem persists I’ll have to shit a brick, because last year was Cuddy’s breakout year and could easily be the career year, too.

As for Boof, the youngest member of the starting rotation threw way too many pitches in his first outing. He did, however, retire 10 of the last 11 batters and recover from that bad 3^rd inning. I bought cheap tickets to the game and as a consequence had to listen to someone from Baltimore root for their team, but in a way it was enlightening. I now understand why so many people have us picked to take 4^th in the division after winning it last year. The Orioles’ remarked that the Twins would do badly this year because behind Johan there was no solid starter- correct. What he failed to understand was that the bullpen is as good as a 2^nd and 3^rd solid starter… and they play every night. Boof gave us some quality innings, and handed over a tie game. One run later we had a win.

I’m kind of glad that everyone can overlook a team that can play ball in more than one way, has the best bullpen, a ton of prospects waiting in the wings if the starters falter, won the division 4 out of the last 5 years and has the reigning Cy young, MVP and batting champ.

I love baseball season.

Usually Unusual

Unbelievable T-Wolves, unbelievable! Finding out about the Timberpuppies blowing a twenty-five point lead was about as surprising as reading another blog about how much Joakim Noah is ugly and sucks at life. I think Dick Vitale would agree with me. But the thing that was surprising was that the T-Pupps managed to score 71 points in the first half. This maybe dim glimmer of hope as the season continues to stumble beyond mediocrity and into the backyard of painful. Minnesota fails to score a field goal for the last 6:38 of the game, breaking the all time record of longest drought without a field goal to end a game, set by the Middlebury, Vermont third grade girls B team. Rashard Lewis laid a massive beat down of the Timberwolves in the fourth quarter by scoring 21 of his 35. All in all, this will be the low point of a dissapointing season, by an overrated team, with high expectations. But the inevitablity of this letdown is something to take comfort in. We as fans now don't have to pretend we want to make it to the playoffs, because there is always a chance. We can now openly express our opinion about secertly wanting the team to take it in the ass for the remaining games, so they don't have to give up their shot at the Oden/Durant lottery. And starting from this point on, we here at Some-Peoples-Kids are vamping up the effort to get our main man Bracey Wright some much needed court time, to show us and "Pacman" Jones what it takes to really make it "rain".

I also find it hilarious that the Timberwolves are having a back to the 80's retro night, when they only existed as a team for a whole three months in 1989. But hey, whatever gets your pants off...

I work, the world watches great basketball

Yesterday two great basketball games and one that set up a championship rematch occurred all while I was stuck at work. I refuse to comment on the Florida-Oregon game because Joakim Noah is a punk and they’ve already gotten more than their fair share of coverage. I hope Arron Afflalo gets his revenge and destroys the Gators next week. UCLA is less cocky, plays better defense and I’d rather not witness a pelvic thrust while the winners hoist their trophy.

The game that I missed that angers me the most was UNC-Georgetown. The game was an instant classic and I don’t have ESPN classic. I SOL. The game sounded amazing and ended with UNC chocking in overtime. I have Georgetown winning it all, so I’m glad to see that they came out on top. Now we get to see grandpa Oden go up against another NBA caliber center in Roy Hibbert and a chance to see if he can handle someone closer to him in ability. I had been under the assumption that Mike Connelly Jr. had been more important to the Buckeyes in the tourney until I saw this. I’m sticking by Georgetown because I believe they came out of the tougher conference and region and have more upperclassmen in the starting line-up.

The final game I missed yesterday was the Timber wolves over the Blazers. Garnett at the buzzer, are you kidding me? I don’t think people realize how good his season has been, this is his third best season… in his best season he won the MVP and in his second best he should have won it. Not a single person even mentions his name for the MVP and I understand that some of it depends on making the post season but imagine this team without the big guy. We’re talking Celtics bad. The other thing I liked about this win was that I believe the Blazers will be a very good team in the not too distant future.

We may not have had a Bracey sighting, but Randy Foye’s Ben Gordonesque performance in the fourth makes me feel better about a team that probably won’t make the playoffs. (And honestly I’m not sure I want them to make the playoffs if they are going to lose 3 straight to the Mavs and owe the clippers a draft pick for Jaric) Maybe it would be better to start James in hopes of drumming up some trade talk. I could handle packaging Davis and James for a big guy and something, then and handing over the reigns to the younger guys next year.

I’m just going to bring a TV to work from now on.

We started writing these weekly letters not too long ago and I thought they were going to be a joke in the eyes of our targeted readers. That’s not to say that I didn’t hope to get a response, but I didn’t think we would get one so quickly (original questions). The icing on the cake is that the one man who could single handedly save the T-Wolves season (or at least get us a road victory). Here he is in his own words… The man, the myth, the legend, Bracey “I’ll do one better than an autograph” Wright-

Thanks for your support and I appreciate that you are pulling for me. Answers:

1. If I were to get 25 minutes a night, I feel my stat line could be 12pts 3reb 3ast.

2. I stand by my decision about not going to the D-league. I felt that last year I was hands down the best player in the league and if I were to return I would be taking two steps backwards.

3. I started to play well under Coach Casey; I was disappointed that he was fired. Once Coach Whitman took over I went back to the bench. Right now we are 8-17 since Coach Casey left. We were 20-20 with him this season...I'll let you be the judge on differences.

4-6. All the young guys hang out. We are always doing stuff together. What makes our young players get along so well is that we truly like each other. We have to find a way to gel on the court, as well as we all do off the court. As far as practice goes, I have been playing really well. I thought that my practice performance would translate into big minutes...but everything happens for a reason. I'm confident I will get my opportunity soon. (I wouldn't wear my hair like Ben)

5-8. I didn't go to Las Vegas, so I didn't know how bad it was. As far as Marko goes he does not stink, but I have known players who do. My favorite tattoo is the one on my chest. It talks to my personal relationship with God. The game against Memphis wasn't in the playoffs, but it still felt great to score 19.

9. I really don't know about the big man situation, I thought that we would make a trade, but we didn't. I do not know what the future holds for me, all I know is that it will work out in my favor.

In Theaters Tomorrow…

All right, gotta do this super quick because I just got off work and the tourney has already started… PREMONITION stars Sandra Bullock and is probably a bad attempt at a time shifting thriller. You’re still alive Sandra? I thought your career died years ago along with MISS CONGENIALITY, THE LAKE HOUSE, and as I look at your filmography basically everything except for speed.

DEAD SILENCE is a horror film that looks to be the heir to the CHUCKY throne. It looks weak, but the dude behind the SAW franchise wrote it so it might be worth your money. Plus Marky Mark’s brother is in the film and doesn’t play the lead… I’ve got a feeling we can fulfill the fantasy of watching a New Kid On The Block die a horrible, horrible death.

I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE is Chris Rock’s new picture. He pulled a Charlie Chaplin and played lead, director and producer on this film. I want to think that it will be good be he has disappointed me in the past (he is the producer who brought us POOTIE TANG). He may be better at stand-up than choosing film projects. (Osmosis Jones?) The comedian Louis C.K. helped write the script but he may have the same problem as Rock. (Once again, POOTIE TANG)

Box Office prediction goes something like this: 300 takes spots 1-3 because if they are not politely offered the film will simply fill you will arrows, cut your heart out with a rusty spork and make love to your girlfriend in front of you for the last remaining seconds of your life. I’d like to say that DEAD SILENCE takes 4^th but its probably WILD HOGS, then SILENCE. Taking 6^th is I THINK I LOVE MY WIFE. This took far to long. Go see 300, dammit.
